How to start you exam prep and which OSCEsmart package to choose

The step-by-step questionnaire below is designed to help you determine what specific services will be most beneficial for you. Customizing your preparation allows you to pay only for the resources that suit your goals and budget.

1. Are you an LPC graduate?

Yes No

The QLTS OSCE goes beyond the LPC course. Some of the areas assessed may not be covered by your LPC provider. Therefore, we would advise signing up for Package A: ‘Study Group’, which provides guidance on key notions in all the practice areas using concise lecture notes translated into visuals. You are provided with online access to video lectures, via any type of devices, including a tablet or cellphone.

In order to make sure you have covered all the required OSCE course materials, please consult  SRA outcomes:
Qualified Lawyers Transfer Scheme Outcomes C; D and F

Go to question 2 below

2. Have you already started your preparation for the QLTS OSCE?

Yes No

If you have already completed your prep on substantive law, then it is time to work on your skills. You should know that at the QLTS OSCE, 50% of the assessment is based on knowledge of law, with another 50% based on legal skills.

Our copyright online video lectures explain skills related issues, in order to help you better understand the QLTS OSCE requirements and standards. The OSCE skills lectures (at £30 per lecture) cover:

  • Client Interview;
  • Case and Matter Analysis / Attendance Note
  •  Advocacy / Presentation or Persuasive oral communication;
  • Legal Research and Written Advice or Legal Writing; and
  • Legal Drafting

Please note, no lectures or other theoretical materials on skills may actually develop your skills, unless followed by intensive practice. So, we would advise proceeding to practice 1,5-1 month before the OSCE.  Individual online trainings (mock exams) are provided in the form of Interviews (with Attendance Notes and Case Analysis), Advocacy and Presentation sessions and Legal Research exercises as per the exam conditions. All of the above are conducted via Skype. For more information on mock exams and skills, please see HOW TO SCORE HIGH IN THE QLTS OSCE EXAM: INSIDER'S TIPS

Mock exams can be purchased piece by piece or as a package. Most candidates, however, select option C: Package 2 ‘All In’ – £700. In case the candidate requires more practice, the offer may be topped up to option D: Package 3 ‘Double’ for an extra £400.

Remember ⅓ of the overall mark on the OSCE Part 2 is attributed to legal research. In order to do a research exercise, consider signing up either for a single mock (£50) or for option E: Package 4 ‘Research’ – £200.

We would advise starting with LPC / OSCE textbooks. These are the major theoretical resource which in our opinion cannot be substituted with any revision notes or study materials.

There are two main publishers to consider: Oxford University Press (OUP) and College of Law Publishing (CLP). For more information, please see THE QLTS OSCE BOOKS AND MANUALS

Taking into account the volume of information to be processed, we would advise signing up for Package A: ‘Study Group’ (£250), which provides guidance on key notions in all the practice areas using concise lecture notes translated into visuals. You are provided with online access to video lectures, via any type of devices, including a tablet or cellphone.

After you have covered all the practice areas, go to the left-hand column.

For more information regarding the QLTS OSCE exam, please see THE QLTS OSCE STRUCTURE, COSTS AND STUDY MATERIALS

3. Is it your first attempt to pass the QLTS OSCE?

Yes No
Go to question 2 above

Depending on your results, we would advise focusing on either your skills or knowledge of law, or both. Most candidates in this position, however, start from Package A: ‘Study Group’ ( £250) which is designed for overall revision.

Following that and depending on your result of the OSCE skills assessment at the previous QLTS OSCE exam, we would advise signing up for a few mock exams purchased either individually or as a package.

Most candidates in this position, however, select option B: Package 1  ‘Practice’ (£500) and/or option E: Package 4 ‘Research’ (£200).
